The High School Varsity Kickline Dance team was invited to perform in the half time show of the Fed Ex Orange Bowl Game in Miami on Jan. 2-6 . The game will air on Tuesday evening, Jan. 5 on the Fox Network. They will also be attending the Bowl Games of America dance convention with classes led by Chris Judd, Mandy Moore, Shane Sparks, and other well known choreographers.
On Dec. 15, the Varsity Girls’ Basketball team played their first conference game vs. Bethpage HS. “We fought hard all game however, we were down by 10 going into the fourth quarter,” said the coach, adding, “A trait that I have noticed from our team is that they are fighters who play their hearts out and never give up in games. We went on an exciting 21-11 run in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.”
Many of the points came off tenacious defense. The team in overtime limited the opposition to only one point. Captain Heather Artinian displayed great poise and scored the winning points on the free throw line in overtime with a few seconds remaining in the game, to secure a 55-51 come from behind victory. Sophomore Nicole Alexander led the way with 22 points, 13 rebounds and 5 block shots. Seventh-grader Taylah Hudson scored 13 points with 4 steals and Heather Artinian contributed 16 points, 11 rebounds and 5 steals.
“Our goal this season is to be the very best team we can be, putting the needs of the team before the needs of the individual. We are building trust, communication, commitment to each other and the value of very hard work in practice and in games. There is great potential on this team and we are getting better every day. The Lady Covers of Glen Cove is ready to take on the competition. Watch out Nassau County,” the coach added.
Members of the Glen Cove Varsity Girls’ Basketball team are Nicole Alexander, Captain Heather Artinian, Marcella Applewhaite, Victoria Durso, McKayla Hernandez, Taylah Hudson, Hailey Langone, Candra McCoy, Captain Catherine Perez and Carina Zupa.
