North Shore Junior Makes Sports History

Sabrina Sobhy, a North Shore High School junior, recently made sports history by becoming the youngest player in 105 years to win the senior division of the United States Squash Nationals Championship. Seeded third in the tournament this March, Sabrina plowed through the opening round, then upset the second seed, a nine time US national champion, only to face the number one seed, her sister, Amanda Sobhy (North Shore graduate 2012). Amanda was fatigued from a series of tournaments prior to the Nationals and Sabrina capitalized on the opportunity to win the tournament.

Sabrina is no stranger to squash excellence. She has won numerous national titles, has played for the US National Junior and Senior Women’s teams, (both nationally and internationally) and is ranked 48 in the world of professional women squash players.

The following weekend was equally successful for Sabrina as she defended her U19 Junior National title and won it. This made her the best junior and senior player in the US. This was Sabrina’s third consecutive U19 title at the age of 17.
