2013 Midget Division 1 Champions

The Midget Cardinals team has brought home the Super Bowl trophy with a 14 – 6 win over Brentwood.

Even with the temperatures below freezing and the wind making it worse – the stands were packed with the Cardinals fans cheering on the Midgets as they played against Brentwood for the Division 1 Championship title game.

Glen Cove Cardinals started out strong and the second play of the game Damon Garner Jr. ran 65 yards to score a touchdown. Mario Fischetti ran and scored the extra point. Then it was the defenses turn to show all they had by not letting Brentwood gain enough yards to make it to the end zone. At halftime the game was 7 – 0.

At the start of the third quarter Brentwood marched down the field to the 15 yard line. At a critical part of the game the defense held them to only five yards  and forced a turn over on downs. The very first play after the change of possession Mario Fischetti broke 3 tackles and ran an amazing 90 yards to get the second touch down of the game.  Two Brentwood players were trying their best to catch him, but they could not outrun the speed of Fischetti.  Going for the extra point was another quick run by Logan Liantonio, bringing the score to 14 – 0.  As Brentwood got the ball they were able to score a touchdown, but were unsuccessful with the extra point.  Going into the 4th quarter with a lead

the defense did not let up and kept Brentwood to minimal yards.

The team, coaches, parents and friends all ran onto the field at the end of the game to jump and cheer with happiness and excitement.  All of the players gave a team effort all season long and the hard word, time and efforts had paid off.

From their coaches they were told, “Offense wins games, defense wins championships.”

Having both, the Glen Cove Midget Cardinals had perfect season.
