On Monday, July 22 at 7:30 a.m., the 25th Annual John Maccarone Hall of Fame Golf Tournament will be held at the Glen Cove Golf Course. All the money raised from this tournament goes to the John Maccarone Scholarship Fund, which was set up in honor of the city’s late recreation supervisor and founder of the Glen Cove Hall of Fame. To date approximately $80,000 has been awarded to outstanding academic-athlete students. This year, as a result of the 2012 golf tournament revenues, six $1,000 scholarships were awarded to outstanding seniors from the Class of 2013.
is just $95 per golfer, which includes greens fees, carts, continental breakfast, barbeque lunch and a special gift to each golfer. There will be trophies for low gross for both men and women and senior men and women (60+), as well as prizes for closest-to-the-line, closest-to-the-pin and longest drive. There will also be a raffle with a chance to win a wide array of prizes, plus a 50-50 raffle.
Tee sponsors are also available for $75 each — a great way to promote your business or to honor a loved one.

The City of Glen Cove Department of Parks & Recreation has announced that a full slate of swim instructions will be available to Glen Cove residents beginning July 16 at Pryibil Beach. The courses offered this summer, for children ages 3 through 12 are as follows:
Tiny Tots: This class is designed to help students ages 3 through 5 feel comfortable in the water and to learn to enjoy the water safely. Time will be from 10:15-10:55 a.m.
Beginners: A concentration on primary skills of floating without support and developing basic locomotion skills, for non-swimmers ages 5 and over. From 11-11:40 a.m.
Advanced Beginners: Students will be taught to coordinate the front and back crawl. The elementary backstroke and the fundamentals of treading water will be introduced. From 12:30-1:10 p.m.
Intermediate: This level is to develop confidence in the strokes learned from previous levels. The breaststroke and sidestroke will be introduced. From 1:30-2:10 pm.
Courses will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday on the dates and times indicated:
Tuesday and Thursday, July 16, 18, 23, 25, 30 and August 1, 6, 8
The courses will be taught by Certified Water Safety Instructors and will be based on American Red Cross guidelines. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required.
A minimum of eight lessons are guaranteed, with make-ups due to weather cancellations only; there are no make-up lessons for any other missed classes. Parent must register their child either by mail with registration form or in person at Department of Parks and Recreation in Room 304 in City Hall during business hours. There is a $40.00 administration fee per child. Glen Cove residency is required.
