It was a beautiful Saturday for the parade and opening day for Glen Cove Junior Soccer on Sept. 15. Gold Coast Productions in Division 1B proudly marched the entire route holding up their sign. It was the first game of the day for their division and it was Gold Coast Productions vs. Glen Cove Chemist.
Both teams came out strong, but Glen Cove Chemists caught Gold Coast’s defense by surprise and scored the first goal of the game. Gold Coast fought back offensively with superior passing by Gabriel Capps and Thomas Potter, as well as a goal by Pandelis Tursi assisted by Grayson Kopetic. Now ready for Glen Cove Chemist, the solid defensive team of Jonathan Patino, Mark LaRocca and Nicolas Parodis held the Chemists to two goals. Repeatedly knocking the ball to the scoring end, Patino, LaRocca and Parodis also contributed midfield with big kicks and smart playing. In the fourth quarter, Marcello Rivadeneyra made an outstanding pass to Kopetic allowing him to score and tie up the game 2-2. The Chemists and Gold Coast played a fantastic first game.
Gold Coast Productions’ boys’ first-grade team enjoyed some great games in September. In the second game against Steel Equities, Gabriel Capps, Nicolas Parodis and Pandelis Tursi led the team to a 5-4 victory. Grayson Kopetic, Mark LaRocca, Jonathan Patino, Thomas Potter and Marcello Rivadeneyra assisted on offense and defense.
In Gold Coast Productions’ third game, Pandelis Tursi scored five of eight goals in an 8-2 victory. Adding goals were Grayson Kopetic and Nicolas Parodis. Holding the opposing team to two goals were Jonathan Patino, Thomas Potter and Marcello Rivadeneyra, and assisting the offense were Gabriel Capps and Mark LaRocca.
In Gold Coast Productions’ fourth game the team suffered its first setback. Grayson Kopetic scored two goals and Nicolas Parodis added a third in the team’s 3-4 loss. Gabriel Capps and Pandelis Tursi assisted on offense, while Mark LaRocca, Jonathan Patino, Marcello Rivadeneyra and Thomas Potter played defense.
In Gold Coast Productions’ final September game, the team regrouped and won 6-2. Grayson Kopetic scored four goals, and Gabriel Capps and Nicolas Parodis each added a goal. Pandelis Tursi and Mark LaRocca assisted on offense, while Jonathan Patino shined on defense, joined by Marcello Rivadeneyra and Thomas Potter.
Glen Cove Arena Taxi faced off against DiLeo Insurance Agency on Sept. 15, opening day for Glen Cove Junior Soccer. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and the two teams from Division 2B were ready to play. Arena Taxi started strong with amazing offensive passing between Jack Spoto, Christopher Gielbeda and Jeffrey Vanegas. Within the first half six goals were scored by Arena Taxi. Not only was the offense on target, but the defense led by Matthew Basil, Declan Callahan and Charlie Centeno, also kept the ball out of the scoring area. Jayson Romero assisted midfield with accurate passes allowing Gielbeda and Vanegas four goals each. Basil, switching positions helped lead additional charges on net as Spoto scored two and Noah Kopetic, previously as keeper, scored one as well. Gielbeda finished up as keeper and had Callahan to aid in keeping all goals out. Arena Taxi’s premier game of the season showed strong teamwork and a good time by all.
Glen Cove Arena Taxi played their second game of the season on Sept. 21 against Greenberg and Greenberg, Attorneys at Law. Arena Taxi began the game with an offensive strike keeping the ball in the scoring end of the field. Greenberg’s goalie did a great job as Arena Taxi took shot after shot. Arena Taxi’s defense of Declan Callahan and Charlie Centeno did an exemplary job keeping Greenberg from scoring. Throughout the game, shots were taken by Christopher Gielbeda, Matthew Basil and Noah Kopetic. With an amazing penalty kick, Jeffrey Vanegas scored and scored again later in the game. Additionally, Jack Spoto also scored two goals for Arena Taxi. The team displayed excellent passing once again and has shown real teamwork. The final score of the game was 4-1 and goalkeepers of the game were Gielbeda, Kopetic and Basil.
After a rainout on Friday night, Glen Cove Arena Taxi played D&R Automotive of Div. 2B on Saturday, Sept. 29. Arena Taxi started strong with two goals by Jeffrey Vanegas within the first quarter. Declan Callahan dominated on defense by keeping the ball out of the scoring area and Matthew Basil didn’t allow any goals in as keeper the first half. Arena Taxi is all about teamwork and with a throw in from a teammate, Jack Spoto scored a goal as well as assisted on another goal by Jeffrey Vanegas. Throughout the game, passing was highlighted. Spoto passed to Christopher Gielbeda for an additional goal and Charlie Centeno assisted Jeffrey Vanegas to score from the outside almost at the half. Other defenders maintaining the shut out were Noah Kopetic and Basil. Kopetic and Gielbeda also played goalkeeper in the third and fourth quarters.
When Gold Coast Productions versed Glen Cove Chemists on Wed., Oct. 3, they were ready for a re-match. Their first meeting ended in a tie and Gold Coast was determined not to let that happen again. The first quarter was an even competition with neither team scoring.
However, when the second quarter began Gold Coast had turned up the heat on the Chemists with Grayson Kopetic scoring two in a row. Kopetic had beautiful assists from Marcello Rivadeneyra and another from Jonathan Patino. Patino not only anchored the defense throughout most of the game but he also supported his teammates with skillful offensive passing. It was all about teamwork and possession during the match as Nicolas Parodis, Mark LaRocca and Thomas Potter played a strong role passing offensive and defensively. Each of these players were able to transition from one end of the field to the other and remain just as strong.
Adding to Gold Coast’s fire, Gabriel Capps, determined to take his ball to goal, charged the net and scored. Finishing up the game, teamwork was again evident as Pandelis Tursi, scored another goal with an assist from Kopetic. The final score was 4-1 with Gold Coast gaining another win.
Glen Cove Arena Taxi of Division 2B faced off against DiLeo Insurance Agency for a second time on Friday, Oct. 5. Arena Taxi started with Jayson Romero on goal and Matthew Basil on defense. The boys began passing immediately and with a skillful give from Jeffrey Vanegas, Christopher Gielbeda took the ball to the net. Vanegas scored two more goals, one unassisted and one assisted by Noah Kopetic. With additional support on offense, Charlie Centeno and Romero did their best in keeping possession. Jack Spoto also added to the goal tally with two goals assisted by Vanegas and Gielbeda. One of the best plays of the night included a beautiful corner kick by Basil to teammate Kopetic, who shot it in the upper corner of the net. Other goalkeepers in the game were Gielbeda and Kopetic. Final score was 6-1 against DiLeo Insurance.
Villagio Tanning Spa has started the season well with some tight contests and one dominating performance. The team has taken on so far, Interchange Business Organization, Mayer Malbin Co., Wounded Warriors, Bauman, Dennis and Hochuli and Kornerstone Publik House. The team has been led by the goaltending greats, Nicholas Martone and Koorosh Leibowitz. Solid defense has been displayed by Will Casale, Martin Amarilla, and Nicholas Martone. The offensive charge has been led by Bryan Villatoro and Owen Grennan. Double duty (offense and defense) players have been led by Brandon Leibowitz, Mason Kletter and Peter Musso.
