The Glen Cove Comanchees 12-U travel baseball team had a record of five wins and only one loss, defeating powerhouse squads such as HBQVB and East Meadow to advance to the playoffs in the annual tournament held on their home fields at John Maccarone Memorial Stadium.
In the crossover playoff rounds, the Comanchees topped the Long Island Mudcats by a score of 7-3 to advance to the championship game. The Comanchees faced the tough Long Island Colts. In a close defensive battle, the Comanchees came away with the win by a score of 5-1. Thomas Mavros’ pitching and hitting performance earned him the 2012 tournament’s M.V.P., having won three games on the mound while allowing only five earned runs. Brian Shannon, Thomas Paulich and Thomas Elletto were the hitting stars.
The strong fielding of Quadir Akines, Christopher Capobianco, Michael Capobianco, Tony Figliuolo, Sean Maleady, Kevin Monahan, Peter Nikolis, and Robert Rizzo helped to keep the opponents off the scoreboard throughout the tournament.
The Comanchees will be making the jump to 90-foot bases for the fall season where they will be competing in the 13-U division. This great squad of hardworking boys, along with Manager Kevin Monahan and coaches Paul Casale, Dino Nikolis and Glenn Rizzo, are ready for the new season.
