In their first home Friday night game under the lights, the Glen Cove High School varsity Big Red football team did not disappoint. Running back Sean Tan rushed for 104 yards on 12 carries and quarterback Will Kassar added 81 yards on the ground with a touchdown and threw for two more scores as the team routed the Carle Place-Wheatley Wild Frogs by a score of 48-0 before a full house at J. Cameron Maiden Field on Sept. 14. Marlon Hernandez and Ryan Perkins also had touchdown runs for the Big Red.
During “Cheerleader and Kickline Appreciation Night” the varsity kickline and cheerleaders, along with the high school pep band, entertained the crowd in between game stoppages. The evening also marked the opening of the high school’s new concession facility, which represents more than 10 years of fundraising and volunteer efforts by the Booster Club and numerous community members and organizations that have donated their time and resources. The Booster Club continues to seek donations to equip the concession with appliances. An official ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, just prior to Homecoming festivities.
