Glen Cove Comanchees Baseball Successful In Cooperstown

The 12-U Boys of Summer took the team on a road trip to Cooperstown’s All Star Village the week of August 11 – 17, going 5-3-1 making it to the third round of the playoffs and beating teams from California, Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois and New Jersey.

Manager Kevin Monahan and coaches Paul Casale, Glenn Rizzo and Dino Nikolis could not believe what a well-behaved group of players they have.

While in Cooperstown, the teams participated in several skills competitions after the tournament’s opening ceremonies.  The Comanchees came in second place in the 10-man relay competition, losing by just one tenth of a second.

The team is comprised of these fine ballplayers:  Quadir Akines – C/OF; Christopher Capobianco – 3B/P; Michael Capobianco – 1B/OF; Thomas Eletto - IF/P; Tony Figliuolo - P/OF/IF; Sean Maleady - P/OF; Thomas Mavros – P/OF; Kevin Monahan – 1B/C; Peter Nikolis – OF; Thomas Paulich – IF/P; Robert Rizzo – IF; Brian Shannon – C/P.

So far this year the team has won four league or tournament championships and also come in fourth place in the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth State Tournament, having won the Metro Championship to advance.

The Comanchees would like to gratefully thank everyone that backed them in helping to achieve their goal of playing in Cooperstown: supporters including  fans, parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters and family members; the Gang on the Hill; Darcy Belyea for helping with the fundraising; Robert Figliuolo and Dino Nikolis for that extra push; and Dom Grosso for being Dom Grosso.

The Comanchees will move up to play on 90-foot bases in the fall, a new adventure.  Next year will bring changes.
