The Varsity Girls Softball team at Portledge School hosted its first home game ever on its new field on April 3. The Portledge girls softball program, inspired by student interest and enthusiasm, began in 2009 and after only two years of away games the momentum was there to create a field on campus.
The game started with a ceremonial opening pitch from Dr. Robert Kleinwaks. Head coach, Skip Amadio, spoke briefly, saying, “Without Dr. Kleinwaks, this field couldn’t have been made a reality. He was the driving force behind providing the girls the best field. Portledge gives him many thanks for all he has done.”
On Saturday, April 21, the entire Portledge community celebrated the opening of the new field by participating in a pick-up game. Children of all ages and their parents enjoyed the day with refreshments and friendly competition. Portledge thanks the many families who got behind the project with both financial support and great enthusiasm.
