North Shore Boys Cross Country is back. After a disappointing 2010 season the Vikings finished their regular season with 12 wins and 1 loss. The only loss was to rival Valley Stream South on Oct. 11. Both teams were undefeated going into the race. The Spartans of Valley Stream edged the squad from North Shore by only one point, handing the Vikings what would be their only loss for the 2011 season.
Putting the loss behind them, the North Shore boys set their goal toward the Conference Championship meet and the chance to beat Valley Stream. The October snowstorm postponed the race, but the boys were ready to go the following Sunday morning.
Entering the race as the underdogs, the North Shore boys ran extremely well, despite the adverse conditions caused by the storm. Sophomore Travis Laderer led the team once again, finishing 3rd and helped the Vikings upset Valley Stream North and win the Conference Championship. Following close behind were Dylan Smith and Ben Kapuscinski in 7th and 8th. Rounding out the top 5 were Brian Michalak and Adam Lavendar. Max Korten and Christian Van Pak also raced for the Varsity Squad.
Finishing off a spectacular day, the JV team finished second in their Conference Meet. Leading the team were Travis Bobley and Tony Cartagine, who placed 3rd and 4th. Ryan Mercadante, Mike Caldwell and Jacob Shuster also scored for JV.
Travis Laderer, Dylan Smith, Ben Kapuscinski, Brian Michalak, and Adam Lavendar were awarded All Conference Honors.
