The North Shore HS Varsity cross-country team has been on the radar for some time now. They have won the county championship for 5 consecutive years, and there doesn’t appear to to be an end in sight. So far this season they have attained a perfect 8-0 record and are currently ranked in the top 5 in the United States. In addition they are the defending Class A New York State Champions. This was the first state championship of any kind for the North Shore School District. This past week was a display of the teams poetry in motion as they placed 1-9 in the varsity race and 1-6 in the Junior Varsity races which indicates not only do they have the talent, but the depth as well. Not to be outdone was the middle school program who took 12 of the first 13 places in their first competition of the season. Some of the returning stars include Seniors Samantha Nadel and Brianna Nerud. Nadel won the famed Millrose Games mile at Madison Square Garden last winter, and holds the NYS 5k indoor record at 16:59. Nerud is coming off her best season to date by setting a new NYS record in the steeplechase and placing 7th in the world in France this past summer. Other members include All-County performers Juniors Jessica Donohue and Elizabeth Caldwell. Along with Nadel and Nerud they are the foundation for the teams success. Newcomers and bright young stars include Sophomore Olivia Statile, Freshman Stacie Nadel, and eight-grader Monica Morra.
The season looks bright as the North Shore Womens Cross-Country team seems to have all its wheels moving in the right direction.
