On Saturday, Sept. 17, Glen Cove’s youngest fishermen and women turned out for the annual Mayor’s Snapper Derby at Pryibil Beach Pier. On a windy afternoon a total of 85 children and their parents joined Mayor Suozzi for a day of fishing. The snappers were plentiful with over 120 fish reeled in.
The City of Glen Cove extends appreciation to the enthusiastic volunteers from the Glen Cove Angler’s Club, the Matinecock Rod and Gun Club and Chairman Tom Manzione for organizing this annual event.
Thanks went from the city, “to all of the sponsors who so generously contributed towards prizes, food and T-shirts. Thank you to Diane from Duffy’s Bait and Tackle for providing bait and extra prizes, and Sal Groe for donating the chum.
