The Friends Academy football program, including Varsity, JV and Middle School, sponsored a “Punt, Pass and Kick” fundraiser shortly before the holidays to raise funds for the Glen Cove Men’s Shelter in Glen Cove.
Spearheaded by physical education teacher and coach Mike Damm, Middle School and Upper School students obtained sponsors prior to competing in the event, and then competed in a kicking contest. Coach Damm then divided up all participants, as well as parents, to create five teams that would compete in a round-robin flag football tournament.
Approximately 50 students participated in the event, which was fueled by generous help from many parents who donated food, drink, desserts and cooked, in a tailgating atmosphere, on the main football field.
At the day’s end, approximately $1,775 was raised and donated to the Glen Cove Men’s Shelter, along with other supplies.
This event was followed by the Quakers football award ceremony held in the Dolan Center honoring all JV and Varsity football athletes from this past fall.
Enrolling 750 students from Play Group through Grade 12, Friends Academy is guided by its Quaker heritage and the principles of integrity, simplicity, patience, moderation and a peaceful resolution of conflict. The school is located on 65 acres at the intersection of Piping Rock and Duck Pond roads in Locust Valley/Glen Cove.
