The match started with Joseph Nicolich and Isaiah Garcia both receiving forfeits at the 96 lbs and 103 lbs weight classes. Then Gorov Sodhi kept the momentum going with an impressive come-from-behind win (7-5) in the 112 lbs weight class. Alex Johnson followed Sodhi at 119 lbs with a pin in the second period. After the first four matches of the Dual Meet GC was up 21-0. After two tough losses at 125 lbs and 130 lbs, Kevin Nicholas grinded out a close win at the 135 lbs weight class (7-6). Jakub Micko followed Nicholas at 140 lbs with a (9-4) win.
Great Neck North rallied to win the next two bouts until Alexey Bogdanich at 160 lbs won 8-0. Directly after Bogdanich, at 171 lbs, tenth-grader Cologero Guastella won his seventh match in a row with a pin in the third period. Finally the last match of the day Glen Cove’s undefeated 245 lb heavyweight Aaron Sylver kept his streak rolling with a second period pin.
Special thanks went out to Head Coach Zupa and the Glen Cove Varsity Cheerleading team for cheering the wrestlers on and making it a night to remember.
The next wrestling event will be the Glen Cove Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29. The Glen Cove wrestlers will continue to train hard to prepare throughout the winter break.
