Women’s Cross-Country Moves to 8-0

As the season continues, so does the outstanding performance of the girl’s cross-country team. This past week the squad improved their record to 8-0 on the season by shutting out rivals Valley Stream North and Wheatley. The quality and depth of the program really showed itself this week as leading the way was Juniors Brianna Nerud and Samatha Nadel who placed first and second respectably. Nerud is the third person to win a league race this season for the Lady Vikings. Other fine performances were attained by senior  Emily Osman who ran her fastest time of her high school career and juniors Gillian McGovern and Nicole Milani who bested much of the competition. Next weekend the team will travel to Saratoga State Park, to compete in the  Burnt Hills Invitational. Field Hockey is 4-3

 

The North Shore Field Hockey Team is 4-3 after big wins against south shore rivals Massapequa and Seaford and north shore rival Cold Spring Harbor. The Vikings have returned their entire starting defense from the 2009 season. The defense is lead by senior Lauren Gerard in goal.  Seniors Danielle Valasiadis and Christina DeMeo combine forces with junior Laura Wefer to make for an unstoppable force. Senior Lauren Janelli moves up the field as an offensive threat for the team as she has already contibuted one goal. Senior Jennie Berglin and Juniors Lyndsay Ahrens and Micaela Dussel lead the attack. Freshman Carly Comitino has joined the starting line-up and contributes to the midfield and attack.

The Vikings took on two big wins this past week. They defeated Cold Spring 2-1 at the stadium field on Homecoming Weekend after they loss to them a week earlier. On Wednesday, MSG Varsity was at Glenwood Landing to record the phenomenal game played by the team in a 3-1 victory over Seaford.

The Vikings finished their 2009 season as League 2 Champs and advanced to the County B quarterfinals. The team returns eight returning starters from last year.
