Glen Cove’s youngest fishermen and women turned out recently for the annual Mayor’s Snapper Derby at Pryibil Beach Pier. The sun was shining and the fish were biting as a total of 121 children and their parents joined Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi for a morning of fishing. The snappers were plentiful with over 120 fish reeled in.
The City of Glen Cove extends appreciation to the enthusiastic volunteers from the Glen Cove Angler’s Club, the Matinecock Rod and Gun Club and Chairman Tom Manzione for organizing this annual event. Thanks to all of the sponsors who so generously contributed towards prizes, food and T-shirts.
Thanks went to Diane from Duffy’s Bait and Tackle for providing bait and extra prizes, Mike Pascucci from Glen Cove Beer and Soda for supplying refreshments, Darcy Blyea from the Department of Parks & Recreation, Amanda Reynolds, Mikey Manzione, Danny Telese as well as to John from Glen Cove Sports Shop for providing the chum bait.
