Week 3 Round Up

The “Two Knights,” Glen Cove’s second-grade lacrosse squad, were on the road last weekend as they hit Syosset to take on a program in their second year. After the previous week’s game, the Knights were hungry for more game-time experience after having a good week of practice.

Syosset came out quickly and showed its experience by moving the ball around the field and scoring three goals. Glen Cove responded when Rocco Rainone had the biggest moment of his young Knight’s career when he put Glen Cove on the board with an aggressive move to the cage. First half goalie, Ryan Heenan, stood tall between the pipes to keep the Knight’s close by making several saves as the half ended with our Knights down 5 - 1.

Glen Cove Junior Lacrosse Week 2 Round Up

Written by Brian ‘Condo’ Neice Friday, 26 April 2013 00:00

History was made when the Glen Cove Junior Lacrosse Club introduced its youngest ever club team to a raucous home crowd on Sunday, April 14.  Although the outcome did not go in its favor, the first and second  grade ‘Two Knights’  never backed down against their Port Washington opponent who used their size and experience to overwhelm the less experienced Glen Cove squad.

Despite outstanding goaltending by Orazio Petitto in the first half, the Knights went down by four goals.  That was when the defense dug in.  Lead by Jonathan Patino, Lucas Mattern and Matteo Cameron, the ‘Two Knights’  were able to force Port into several turnovers.  Chris Gieldbeda, Rocco Rainone and Tyler Rosario worked hard at the midfield, picking up groundballs and clearing the ball to the attack, led by Mark LaRocca, CJ Brown and Leo Rainone.

‘Wee Knights’ Win Home Opener

The Glen Cove Junior Lacrosse season started off with a double header of lacrosse action on their new home field at Connolly School, aka Condo Stadium.  The seventh and eighth grade ‘Late Knights’ took to the field against Point Lookout/Lido and were quickly reintroduced to the game of lacrosse.  The scoring was fast and furious and unfortunately mostly for the opponent as the final score was 14 – 2.  The 2 scores were by Ryan Feldmann and Russell Perciballi, both unassisted, thus showing the lack of teamwork.  With the amount of talent the team possesses we’re sure they’ll bounce back and be prepared for their next game.
