Mayor Suozzi, Francine Ferrante, Maureen Bastlavas, and all the members of the Chamber of Commerce, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the wonderful awards you gave to Luca and Max Marra in honor of their father, Mario.
Ten years ago, my husband Mario and I walked into the Old School Street deli and he looked at me and said, “You see this place? I am going to turn this place into my dream restaurant and I am going to have people eating dinner outside like they do in Italy.”
Mario had a vision and I knew he would persist until his vision came to fruition. The night you dedicated the concert to Mario, I looked out into a packed audience and I looked into the streets of our very own Glen Cove and I thought to myself, “This is what my husband dreamed about. This was his vision.” Family and friends were gathered in the streets eating their dinner, people were dancing, children were playing, and music was permeating the streets. I knew after this night that Mario’s determination paid off and that his legacy lives on through the people of Glen Cove.
I want to thank you all for thinking about him, us, and his two children who meant the world to him. Luca and Max were incredibly proud to receive an award for such an amazing man. One of his favorite sayings was “Eat good, life is short.” And so he did.
