Letter: vClarification Of Glen Cove School District Budget Notice

The residents of Glen Cove have recently received a flyer regarding the School District Budget Proposal for 2014/15.  Indicated on the flyer is a proposal for a tax levy “to support Library Debt.”  The Glen Cove Public Library is classified as a School District Library, which obtains its finances via a separate tax levy on your school tax bill and does not have any debt associated with the school district.  The school district budget and the public library budget are separate and distinct entities.

The reason for this clarification is that the Glen Cove Public Library and its irustees have received numerous inquiries regarding the school district budget and we would suggest these inquiries be directed to the school district.  The Glen Cove Public Library has its own budget and can be found on our web site under the “About Us” tab.

It should also be noted that our librarians have had the pleasure of collaborating with members of our local schools including the superintendent’s office, the teachers and the school librarians. Coordinating the resources available within our community will benefit all of our students.  The Glen Cove Schools have been generous and gracious with their time and knowledge in suggesting titles for our collection that meet with the standards of the current Common Core curriculum.

Although our budgets are separate, our goals of providing educational resources to the Glen Cove community are very much the same.
