As the founder and president of the Glen Cove Arts Council, I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank and acknowledge the Long Island Academy of Fine Art (LIAFA), Hersh Gallery on Glen Street in Glen Cove, its owners, teachers and student artists who donated their time and talent in support of GCAC.
Over the years GCAC has sponsored talented youth with lessons and art supplies at LIAFA; youth who, without the funding, would have not been able to study art or build their portfolio to go on to college and a career in this field.
The staff and students at LIAFA offered to give back to GCAC by hosting a reception, art exhibit and sale which raised needed funds for GCAC. In addition to art classes, the Glen Cove Arts Council exposes local youth to the arts through visits to museums, theater, ballet and opera. The board members of GCAC are also very thankful to Steve Forster, who planned the event with Robert and Flora Armetta.
GCAC receives no government funding, has no paid staff and relies on fundraising events and the generosity of the community for support.
