Longstanding Tradition Of Excellence For North Shore

The North Shore Schools have a longstanding tradition of excellence in education. I am thankful to have the support of a community that values and promotes a strong system of public education. During the 2011-2012 school year, our students continued to excel as evidenced by their accomplishments in a variety of areas:

• Graduates continue to earn acceptance at highly selective colleges and universities

• In their first year, the robotics team won both New York State and National Titles

• North Shore students continue to earn the highest number of Gold Medals of any Long Island school district at the Long Island Math Fair

• 152 students in the Class of 2012 were enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) Courses

• 84 musicians were selected to perform in The All County Music Festival

• 81 students were inducted into the National Honor Society

• Scores on the 2011-2012 New York State ELA/Math Assessments were among the highest in the state

• Regents scores are at their highest level to date

• At the NYSSMA Majors held at Hofstra University, our students earned 7 Gold Medal Medals (two with distinction), five Silver Medals, and one Bronze Medal for their performances

• The Key Club brought home gold this year

• Interact provided valuable community service

• 13 Choral Singers received invitations to attend the National Conference of The American Choral Directors Association

• Two high school students were named Long Island Young Scholars of Mathematics by the Institute for Creative Problem Solving for Gifted and Talented Students at SUNY College at Old Westbury

• Four students won awards at the Long Island Press High School Journalism Awards Gala

• During the past four years, 39 students were named National Merit High Scorers, 15 were Commended Students, seven were semifinalists, six were finalists and two were National Merit Winners

• We had nine County Championship Teams including the girls cross country team, girls winter track team, girls spring track team, girls lacrosse team, and girls basketball team; and two State Championship Teams (the girls cross country team twice) in just the past two years

• 192 students/19 teams qualified for the NY State Association Scholar/Athlete Team Award for the 2011-12 school year

It is with tremendous pride that I invite you to join me on Saturday, September 22, as we come together as a district and community to celebrate Homecoming as well as the official opening of the new North Shore High School Stadium Track and Field. The schedule of activities that has been planned to make the day a very special experience for all appears on the North Shore Schools website at www.northshoreschool.org. Please join me to celebrate all that makes North Shore such an exceptional place.

I look forward to sharing this very special Homecoming with your family.
