Friday, 14 October 2011 00:00As I watched the candidate’s debate on Channel 12, I was astonished at Robert Germino’s answer about the $400,000,000 Coliseum issue. He completely changed his position. Before the August 1 referendum, he was absolutely silent on this huge issue.
After the voters turned down the referendum being promoted by County Executive Mangano, he was asked this question by the Record Pilot: If you were already representing the 18th Legislative District and the referendum passed, it would then go before you for approval in the legislature. Would you vote YES or NO to borrow $400 million while Nassau suffers from a major deficit – raising property taxes at the same time?
Answer – “We should move forward with private investment.” He didn’t have the fortitude to take a position before the referendum and refused to answer this direct question for the reporter about the way he would have voted had he been in the Legislature.
He works for Mr. Mangano in Nassau County. He obviously would be a “rubber stamp” for Mr. Mangano if he were elected. We don’t need someone always concerned about protecting his other job, particularly when we are talking about $400,000,000 ($800,000,000 including interest for 30 years).
Delia DeRiggi Whitton has the courage to make her case clearly and was firmly against bailing out billionaire Charles Wang.
