As all of you know, for personal family reasons I have decided not to seek re-election as your county legislator. My daughter transferred to a high school which specializes in dramatic arts to pursue her studies in theatre. For the last eight years my family made sacrifices to support my decision to serve in government. Now it is my turn to place my daughter’s educational needs first. I want to focus fully on helping her achieve her future goals.
To continue the good work we have accomplished these past eight years, I am supporting Delia DeRiggi-Whitton to succeed me.
Delia is a two-term city councilwoman in Glen Cove. She is active in more civic and charitable organizations than I have room to mention here. A working mom, Delia maintains an active relationship with Glen Cove senior citizen groups.
One of the concerns I had when I considered not running was whether the Democratic Party would attract a strong, qualified candidate to replace me. In Delia DeRiggi-Whitton we have the best possible choice to serve as our County Legislator.
During the past four years Delia has made Glen Cove proud by championing the right causes, standing up for our principles and working seven days a week to make our community a better place. I know she will provide the entire North Shore area with the same kind of dedication and integrity she has brought to her duties on the Glen Cove City Council.
Therefore, I urge each of you to give Delia the same support you have always given me. Let’s all get behind her to ensure her victory. I am so pleased that she has decided to run for county legislator. When she is elected this November she will make all of us very proud.
Hon. Diane Yatauro
County Legislator, 18th LD
