Letter: Marine Sergeant Cavallaro

As Saturday night eased into the earliest part of Sunday morning, something truly wonderful began to unfold. Marine Sergeant Sal Cavallaro III returned to his home in Glen Cove from being in Afghanistan for 9 months to the thankful relief of his family and friends.

Sgt. Cavallaro was received back home with a hero’s welcome by police, fire and EMS personnel with units fully “lit up” sirens sounding their fitting fanfare. You headed up the evening shift whose presence made such a magnificent impact of Sgt. Cavallaro’s homecoming. American Legion Young-Simmons Post 1765 wants to acknowledge your timely cooperation and partnership on this event. We were moved by the exuberance and the spectacle of it and we know that Sgt. Cavallaro was profoundly uplifted by it and will hold this experience dear in his heart. Surely he will speak of that night often.

Well done! Thank you for remembering.
