Mary Barbara (“Mary Ann”) Redis, age 71, died Jan, 23, 2010 after a valiant struggle with lung cancer surrounded by her loving family and devoted friends. Daughter of the late Kathleen and John Maher. Wife of the late Carl Redis. Mother of Michael J. Volpe (Eileen), Elizabeth Catanzano (Kerry), Tara Volpe, Philip J. Volpe (Sylvia) and John F. Volpe (Mario); Grandmother to Kelly, Mathew, Marissa, Danielle, Kerry Jr., Katie, Alexandra, Elizabeth, Max, Isaac Alexander, “Eli.” Great-grandmother to Lexi. Sister and in-law of John Maher Jr., Joan Benzinger (Andy), Kathleen Griffenkranz, the late Philip Maher, Anne Buckler, James Maher (Mary), Elizabeth McGinty, Donald Maher (Karen), Barbara Uhlich (Arthur) and Ronald Dess. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great- nieces and nephews.

Born Sept. 25, 1938, in the Bronx, New York, Mary Ann eventually moved with her mother, father and nine siblings to Glen Cove before marrying Joseph Volpe where she raised their five children. She worked in the local community and served for a number of years with the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce in an administrative capacity. She married Carl Redis in August 1977. Mary Ann was an active member of the Glen Cove Community Center and she will be forever missed by her friends and neighbors at the Glen Pearsall apartments where she lived the last years of her life in complete happiness serving on various committees, sitting poolside for days on end and traveling the world with her friends from Glen Pearsall and the Senior Center.
