Obituary: Anne Marion O’Donnell Benenson

Anne Marion O’Donnell Benenson, 85, of Hightstown, NJ, died on Dec. 25, 2013. Born to the late Manus T. and Margaret O’Donnell, Jan. 28, 1928, in Olean, Anne graduated from Bradford High School in 1945 and received a nursing diploma at Syracuse Universityin 1948. She was a registered nurse until she retired, and worked in many settings, the last at Glengariff Nursing Home in Glen Cove.


Anne was predeceased by husband Thomas Benenson, and stepdaughter Nancy Krug; Anne and Tom lived for many years in Sea Cliff. Anne was active in many community organizations and was a lay reader at Trinity Episcopal and St. David’s Episcopal churches. In 2004, they moved to Meadowlakes in Hightstown, NJ. Anne and Tom enjoyed travel and hiking, and attended more than 50 Eldershostel programs. 


Anne is survived by daughters: Kathleen and Mary Koopman of Tucson, AZ, Jane Singer of Jerusalem, Israel, and Amy Pyle of Daytona Beach, FL; stepdaughters Jean Hummel and India Martz; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and her special companion, Breezee the cat. A private service was held at Trinity Church, Roslyn; a memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan.18 at 2 p.m., St. David’s Episcopal Church, 90 S. Main, Cranbury, NJ 08512.
