Edward Robert Nienstedt

Edward Robert Nienstedt, 92, of Glen Head, passed away on Oct. 5, 2009, after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, he also lived in Bellerose, Wading River and Floral Park, before moving to Glen Head 30 years ago. He served in the United States Army during WWII for five years. As a second lieutenant, he was stationed in Puerto Rico and, later, the United States.

Happily married for 66 years, he is survived by his wife Anne C. Nienstedt (nee Mackin); his daughter Carol Stafford; his sons, Edward, Bruce (Maria) and Steven (Lorraine); and his son-in-law Timothy Stafford; his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Nienstedt; and his other daughter Carolyn Whalen; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He will be missed deeply and remembered lovingly by all who knew him as a man of honor, integrity, and grace. Visiting Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Whitting Funeral Home, 300 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Head. Funeral Mass Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Martyr RC Church, Sea Cliff. Interment to follow at the V.A. National Cemetery, Calverton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Boniface Martyr Church, 145 Glen Ave., Sea Cliff, NY 11579.
