Obituary: Helen Louise Harwood

Helen Louise Harwood
Helen Louise Harwood, a Glen Cove resident for over 50 years, who grew up in Glenwood Landing and graduated Salutatorian from Hofstra University, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on Feb. 21, 2009. She was 89 years young. Helen passed 13 years after her beloved husband, Frank Edmunds Harwood.

Sons, Richard and James, were able to be at her bedside at the Glen Cove Community Hospital where she finally succumbed to the complications of pneumonia after a 10-day long battle.

A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m.

Helen was a woman of robust energy and intellectual curiosity whose passion for all that life offers was infectious. Helen cultivated and maintained a vast network of friendships dating back to as early as 3 years of age.

Helen supported the kids of Covenant House, PBS and the First Presbyterian Church, to name some of the charitable giving she did throughout her life.

We all will remember Helen as a bright light touching and enriching our lives.

Flowers may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove, 7 North Lane.
