Obituary: Michael John Britt, 1955-2013

Michael John Britt of Glen Cove passed away unexpectedly at his home. He was 58 years old. Mr. Britt was born in Glen Cove and was a life long resident there. He was the son of Michael Britt, Sr. and Tatiana Britt, also long time residents of the city.

Britt attended local schools and was a graduate of Glen Cove High School.  An excellent student, Mr. Britt continued his studies at Yale University, New Haven, CT, and earned a bachelors degree. He went on to the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. and was awarded the degree of Juris Doctor. Britt was admitted to the practice of law in the District of Columbia in 1988.

An avid outdoorsman and nature photographer, Britt enjoyed numerous trips to the Blue Ridge Mountains of West Virginia and the wilderness of northern Maine. He was a firearms enthusiast and for many years was active in the family business, MBI Firearms in Mineola. The business continues and is highly successful and well regarded. Although disability limited his physical activity in his later years, Mr. Britt remained active managing his family’s interests.

The family was close and they lived and worked together for most of Britt’s adult life. He was predeceased by his father, Michael, Sr., who passed away in 2008. Thereafter, Britt remained dedicated to the care and well-being of his mother, Tatania, who passed away shortly before him. The family is reunited in God’s care.

Britt is survived by three cousins and their families. Russian Orthodox services were held at Our Lady of Kazan, Sea Cliff, followed by the burial at East Hillside Cemetery, Glen Cove.
