Obituary: Virginia Birnie Byrnes

Virginia (Ginny) Birnie Byrnes, of Pembroke, MA and formerly of Glen Cove, died on June 21, 2012 at the age of 76 after a long illness. She was born in Barre, VT, and lived in Glen Cove for more than 40 years before moving to Pembroke five years ago to be close to her family. She attended Colby College in Waterville, ME. Ginny was a homemaker and later worked at St. John’s of Lattingtown Episcopal Church in Locust Valley as a secretary for 25 years. She was also a member of the Junior League of Long Island. Ginny was an avid reader and loved music and gardening. She will be remembered as a caring person who extended kindness to all and for her close friendships. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Wife of the late Peter M. Byrnes, she leaves her two daughters, Susan Shirley and her husband Thomas of Wrentham, MA, Linda Byrnes and Raymond Carter of Scituate, MA, and grandchildren Robert Shirley of Brighton, MA, and Andrew Shirley of Wrentham, MA. Service to be held at St. John’s of Lattingtown Episcopal Church on July 1 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to St. John’s of Lattingtown Episcopal Church, 325 Lattingtown Rd., Locust Valley, NY 11560 or CurePSP, 30 E.
