Dorothy Carol Mayer, the daughter of Robert and Dorothy Baur, was born in Brooklyn, on Dec. 13, 1922 and lived for most of her life in Brooklyn and Glen Head. In her later years she spent nine years at Wakefield Gardens in Raleigh, NC, and three years at the Bridges in Edinburg, TX. She passed away on April 18, 2012 in Edinburg, TX.
Mrs. Mayer attended Brooklyn College, was an accomplished concert pianist and worked for Time Life publishing during WWII. She was a loving mom and spent her adult life dedicated to her family and husband, a Naval veteran of WWII in the Pacific. Her interests included piano, theater, gardening, nature and birding. Her family and friends will remember her for her graciousness and generosity.
She is survived by two of her three sons, their respective families, Frederick Nelson Mayer Jr. and wife Margaret Mayer of Hampstead, NC, Donald Richard Mayer and wife Tina Mayer of Mission, TX, granddaughters, Kelsey Rae Mayer and Adrienne Elyse Mayer and great-granddaughter Skylar Elyse Mayer. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Margaret Mayer of Virginia and Clara Baur of Connecticut. She was preceded in death by Frederick Nelson Mayer, her husband of 61 years, and son Steven Charles Mayer. Arrangements were made by the Kreidler Funeral Home, McAllen, TX.
