Obituary: Dr. Virgil F. Ficarra

Dr. Virgil F. Ficarra, of Glen Cove, died on April 16, 2012. Husband of Anne. Father of Susan Ficarra, Joseph, Roseanne Ficarra, Robert (Debbie) and Diane Lama (Anton). Grandfather of Amy and Kelly Ficarra and Jesse, Jack and Annie Lama. He dropped out of MIT to join the Army Air Corps and was a B-17 pilot during WWII. After the war he graduated from MIT with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He graduated from Harvard Medical School. He then completed his medical training at New York, Bellevue and Kings County Hospitals. He settled in Glen Cove where he practiced surgery at Glen Cove Hospital for over 45 years. Memorial visiting was held at the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Interment private. Contributions may be made to City of Glen Cove E.M.S., 8 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Cove, NY 11542.
