Coolidge Chu passed away on March 30, in hospice in Wisconsin. He was the brother of Wallace Chu, a 48-year resident of Glen Cove. Coolidge Chu was born on July 4, 1926 to father, Ting Wing Chu and mother, Fannie Eng Chu joining a family that eventually comprised five boys, Alexander, Euclid, Coolidge, Wallace and Philip and four girls, Sophia, Grace, Florence and Victoria. True to his date of birth he devoted the great majority of his working life in the service of his country, the United States of America. With the advent of America’s entry into WWII, he, still in his teens, joined the US Navy Officer training program graduating with a commission of Ensign and was stationed at the Navy’s Great Lakes base. Having attained a baccalaureate degree while training for his commission, he entered Brown University to attain his master’s degree after the end of WWII. Coolidge was recalled into the Navy when the US entered the Korean War, serving with distinction as a Naval Intelligence Officer in the war zone in the waters off the Korean peninsula.
Edward Robert Flanagan passed away on April 6, 2014. He was born Sept. 8, 1919 to the late John Francis Flanagan and Madeline Kober Flanagan in Brooklyn and spent his childhood in Queens. He married the late Harriet Hoffman Flanagan in 1950 and raised three daughters in Glen Cove. He served with the 52nd Medical Battalion in the Mediterranean Theater during World War II, where he earned a Bronze Star. He was a graduate of Pace College and worked with Price Waterhouse as a certified public accountant before becoming a financial adviser to the IBM Corporation in Armonk. He was an active volunteer who generously lent his financial expertise to the Reformed Church of Locust Valley and to Sagamore Yacht Club in Oyster Bay, where he served both organizations as treasurer for many years; he was also a past commodore of Sagamore Yacht Club and an elder at the Reformed Church. He was a talented athlete who sailed, skied, played golf and easily excelled in sports and an inveterate tinkerer who enjoyed working with his hands. But he placed family before all his interests and accomplishments and was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his three daughters Susan, Cynthia and Melissa; and by his three grandsons Edward, James and Philip. Visitation at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Casimera Gorski, 89, of Sea Cliff, died peacefully on Ash Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in Jacksonville, FL, surrounded by her family. Casimera has joined her loving husband of over 60 years, Peter John Gorski Sr. and her son, Peter J Gorski Jr. in heaven, as well as, her brother John Gains. Casimera is survived by her son Kenneth Gorski, his wife Jane of Jacksonville, FL; and her granddaughter Jama Podell-Vitale, her husband Thomas and her two great-grandchildren, Claudia and Luca. Casimera was an active member of St. Hyacinth Catholic Church on Long Island and was active with the Veterans Association. In addition to being an outstanding cook, she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, April 10, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Hyacinth R.C.
