Elsie Wunsch, nee Rubin, 97, of Glen Cove, died peacefully at Glen Cove Hospital on June 5, 2009. Elsie was born on Aug. 23, 1911 in Manhattan and is an alumna of Columbia University.
She married her beloved Samuel, a mechanical engineer, in 1934. The couple built a home (which they named Elsam) overlooking Long Island Sound on East Island in Glen Cove, moving in on V-J Day in 1945, and spent their lives there.
Albert A. Young died on June 4, 2009 at the age of 91. He was born in Sea Cliff and lived there all of his life. He graduated from the NYS Merchant Marine Academy in 1939. He served as a PT Boat captain during WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat V. While serving in the South Pacific, he rescued the crew of another PT Boat that had been destroyed.
Catherine “Kitty” Quevedo, of Glen Cove and formerly of Locust Valley, died on June 4, 2009 at age 86. Wife of the late Frank. Mother of Betty Lottes and the late Frank. Sister of John Thomas, Marie Ferrari and the late Edward Thomas. Grandmother of Elizabeth and Erica. Visiting at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Mass at St. Patrick’s RC Church. Julio C. Pinedo, of Glen Cove, died on June 4, 2009. Husband of Maria. Father of Julio Pinedo Jr., Blanca Carballido, Julie Pinedo, Roger Pinedo and the late Alfonso Pinedo. Grandfather of Christina Perez, Jessica Tate, Marvin Tate, Jr., Symone Pinedo, Christopher Perdomo, Sophia Pinedo, Victoria Pinedo, Patricia Carballido, Michael Carballido, Justin Simpson and soon to arrive Pricilla Pinedo. Son of Blanca Tesalia Pinedo and the late Alfonso Pinedo. Brother of Jamie, Raul, Alfonso and Lourdes. Visiting was June 7 at Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Burial was at Brookville Cemetery.
Helen Marie Keaveny Corrigan, 85, wife of the late Gerard Eugene “Gerry” Corrigan and a resident of Melfa, VA, passed away on June 1, 2009 at Shore LifeCare in Parksley, VA. Born on Sept. 3, 1923 in Boston, MA, and raised in Glen Cove, she was the daughter of the late Michael Keaveny and Mary Taggart Keaveny.
She raised her family with her beloved husband Gerry, in Levittown and on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, making her home in Melfa for the last 30 years.
