Faith McKay Wolf, of Glen Head, died on July 30, 2009 at the age of 99. Faith was born on Dec. 19, 1909 in Norwich, CT. She spent most of her life on Long Island. In 1988 she was predeceased by her husband, Norman T. Wolf. Faith was active in civic and church affairs, receiving the Bishop Cross for Parochial Service, a life member of the auxiliary of the North Shore University Hospital at Glen Cove and former board member of the Nassau County Women’s Division of the Salvation Army.
She is survived by her son Thompson (Susan) Wolf; her granddaughter Karen (David) Jarnagin; her great-grandchildren, Reagan Sue and Ryan. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1579 Northern Blvd., Roslyn on Aug. 15, 2009 at 2 p.m. Interment will be private in the Cloister Garden of Trinity Church. If desired, contributions may be made to Trinity Church or the Salvation Army.
Joseph W. Cappiello, of Glen Cove, died peacefully at home on July 29, 2009 at age 89. Born July 22, 1920 in New York City, he and his family, parents Anthony and Angelina (nee Suozzi) Cappiello moved to “The Orchard” in Glen Cove when he was a young child. He became a lifelong resident of Glen Cove. Joseph went to St. Patrick’s Parochial School and graduated from Glen Cove High School in 1939. He was an honored WWII Army Air Corps veteran who served on Tinian Island in the South Pacific during the Enola Gay’s historic mission to Japan. He was the recipient of the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal. He was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus James Norton Council and Sons of Italy Loggia 1016.
Husband of the late Lucretia (nee Gambino). Father of Anthony (Debra and the late Patricia), Jo-Ann Meli (Paul), James (Jeanne), Karen Truzzolino (Robert) and Marylu Loria (Michael). Brother of Lucy Bellissimo (Angelo), Angeline Manganiello (Louis), Michael (Mary) and predeceased by Anna Zuccala (Tony), Rose Simoneschi (John) and Mildred Silipo (August). Grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of three. Also survived by aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends. Arrangements were made by the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Mass at the Church of St. Rocco. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
Carl Warren “Huck” Carlson, of Glen Head, died on July 27, 2009. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the 11th Airborne Division; member of the Glenwood Fire Co. and Glenwood Landing American Legion Post 336. Son of the late Carl and Thyra Carlson. Brother of the late Vincent Carlson. Brother-in-law of Jessie Carlson. Nephew of Helena Erickson. Uncle of Karen Nadeau, Brita Quinn, Carl Carlson, Eric Carlson, Craig Carlson. Cousin of Bob and Richie Lindblom, Stan Lindvall, Brita Cagnazzi, Mona Walsh, Ann Burke and Jane Skidmore. Also survived by many grand nieces and nephews. She was a former actress with the Town Troopers and Glen Players, former member of the Sea Cliff Yacht Club and Election Inspector Chairman for 30 years for the Nassau County Board of Elections. Louis Slanina, of Glen Head, died on July 23, 2009. He was a WWII veteran serving with the US Army 7th Armored Division and recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds sustained during combat operations in the “Battle of the Bulge.” He was a 55-year resident of Glen Head and member of the Glenwood Landing American Legion, Post 336.
