Edith Timms (nee Knisely) of Glen Head, passed away on Aug. 31, 2009 after a brief bout with cancer. She was born in Kensington, PA, on Nov. 8, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Rosalie Knisely (nee Criss ) and the late Paul Knisely. Just after WWII, Edith ran a small restaurant in Washington D.C. along with her sister, the late Letha K. Laurie of Appomattox, VA. She also worked for the government in the medical records department. She later met and married the late Robert J. Timms. The young couple moved to Manhattan, KS and Chicago, IL, before moving to Syosset and then settling in Glen Head, were they lived for 55 years.
While raising her young family she frequently volunteered for A.H.R.C. She worked for many years at the Manhasset Junior High School Library. Mrs. Timms was a prolific artist who loved gardening and nature.
Mrs. Timms leaves behind her four children, Suzanne Hamilton (nee Timms) (Philip) of Scarborough, ME, Andrew J. Timms of Rocky Point, Barbara Nelson (nee Timms) (Steven) of Huntington Station, and John R. Timms of Lake Villa, IL. She also leaves behind three grandsons, Philip “Benny” Hamilton, Patrick J. Timms and Daniel A. Nelson.
Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral service held at the funeral home. Interment V. A. National Cemetery, Calverton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Nassau County Museum of Art, Roslyn, NY.
Michael Galluccio, a life-long resident of Glen Cove, passed away from complications of a skull-based tumor on July 16, 2009 at the age of 51. Mike’s true passion for his family, friends and church sustained him through almost five years after his diagnosis. Services were held at the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head, where the outpouring of love and comfort were overwhelming. A funeral service was held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Glen Cove with the most generous reception hosted by loving friends from the community. Mike is survived by his mother Marian (the late Angelo); his wife Suellen; and his children, Mark and Julie. He is brother to Joseph (Barbara) and Katherine (Kenneth).

Alan Immerman, of Cold Spring Harbor, died on Sept. 6, 2009 at age 89. He was a longtime optometrist in New Hyde Park and a WWII veteran. Husband of Carlyn. Father of Neal and Jill. Services under the direction of Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove. Burial Mt. Ararat Cemetery.

Rita Bolgosano, of Glen Cove, died on Sept. 2, 2009. Wife of the late Louis. Mother of Phyllis, Louis and Patricia. Grandmother of Sarah Casey Hendricks. Sister of Virginia Capriola. Dominick DiFede, lifetime resident of Locust Valley, died on Aug. 31, 2009 at age 69. He was a member of the Locust Valley Fire Dept. since 1965. Husband of Jean. Father of Robert (Anne), Doreen McCarthy and the late Peter. Brother of Louis, Angelina Veroxie, George and the late John. Grandfather of Laura and Nicole. Also survived by his buddy Tigger. Arthur F. Merrick, 82, of Little River, SC, formerly of Sea Cliff, died Aug. 30, 2009 at Seacoast Medical Center. He was the son of the late Leo J. and Margaret Doxey Merrick. Mr. Merrick was a WWII Navy veteran and was a retired corrections officer with the Nassau County Sheriff’s Department.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Gilhooly Merrick; loving daughters, Nancy (Patrick) Furlong of Glen Cove, and Patricia (Patrick) Turbitt of Lagrange, NY; grandchildren, Emily Furlong and Matthew Turbitt; nieces, Brenda, Margaret, Christina and Cathleen; nephews, James and John; sisters-in-law Pamela and Joy. Mr. Merrick was predeceased by brothers, John, James and his wife Dorothy and Doree; a sister, Loretta.

John R. Eldridge, of Glen Cove, died on Aug. 29, 2009 at age 93. He was a WWII Army veteran and a longtime employee of Glen Cove City Hall. Husband of Theresa for 56 years.
