Eleanor Darlington Trevor , of Paul Smiths, NY, formerly of Locust Valley and Manhattan, died on Aug. 19, 2009 at age 87. Wife of the late Bronson. Mother of Eleanor T. von Stade (Charles), Bronson Trevor Jr. (Nancy) and Caroline W. Rupp (Christopher). Sister of the late Joel Ellis Fisher Jr. Grandmother of Eleanor F. and Charles von Stade III, Bronson III and Ellis F. Trevor, Caroline T., Emily G. and Peter G. Salas. Interment private. Frank P. Carbonara, husband of Frances Carbonara for 54 years, died on Aug. 19 of complications following heart surgery. He was a cellist, WWII veteran and graduate of Columbia and Teachers College.
Frank loved classical music, opera and teaching. He was a popular teacher for 35 years, 31 of which were spent in the Roslyn Public Schools. He is remembered fondly by many students. After retirement, Frank taught music appreciation in Adult Ed at local colleges, libraries and public functions. For many years, Frank taught at the Hutton House Lectures at C.W. Post College.
He is survived by his loving wife Fran; sons, Daniel (Susan), David (Natalie), Nicholas; and four grandchildren. Arrangements were made by the Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral Mass at St. Hyacinth Church. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery. William W. Ayers
William W. Ayers, of Old Brookville, died on Aug. 19, 2009 at age 59. Son of the late Barbara and William. Brother of Jeffrey (Ellen) and the late Barbara Lisanne. Uncle of Alexandra and Charlotte. He was a Vietnam veteran, U.S. Marine Corp. and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was chief surgical resident, Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn and chief triage officer, Nassau County Medical Center. He was a talented surgeon who helped many people. Services are private.

Sidney Farkas, formerly of Glen Cove, passed away on Aug. 15, 2009 at the age of 90. He is survived by his two daughters, Shelley Farkas Davis of New York City and the Hudson Valley and Barrie Farkas Miller of New York City. He is also survived by his nieces, Roberta Witlin Hirsh, Sindee Schenker Weinbaum and Cathy Witlin Blake as well as his nephews Sandy Witlin and Steven Schenker.
Sidney Farkas moved to Port Washington after the death of his wife Evelyn to whom he was married for over 50 years. They both met while attending Brooklyn College where Sidney was on the football team. Sidney was the leader of the Great Books Club at the Locust Valley Library for many years. He was a long time psychologist for a Long Island hospital until his retirement. He traveled extensively with his wife Evelyn who was a social worker at the same hospital. Besides traveling, the couple enjoyed creative gardening, reading, art, theater and music.

Gloria G. Grassi, of Bayville, died suddenly on Aug. 16, 2009. Daughter of Sara and the late Gaetano. Sister of Ron (Marge). Niece of Gilda Carlucci. Aunt of Thomas, John and Ron. Mildred A. (Stein) McNally
A Lifetime in the Landing
Millie was born the ninth of 10 children to William Stein and Etta Tienken Stein on Nov. 10, 1926 at her childhood home in the Landing. After graduating from Glen Cove High School, she worked at Columbia Ribbon and Carbon until she married her soulmate, Ed McNally, in 1947 and started her own family. Millie and Ed built a house in the Landing in 1954 where they raised their three sons. Millie remained in that house until her quiet passing on Aug. 14, 2009.
Millie was the mother of Ed (Jane), Bob (Elin) and James (Dawn Marie). She was the grandmother of Robert (Adrienne), Daniel (Courtney), Kristin (Kyle), William (Katrina), Kimberly, Sean, Lauren and Deanna Marie. Millie was adored by her many nieces and nephews as well.
Millie was a special friend to many and often a caregiver to those around her. She will also be remembered as an organizer for the Glenwood Landing American Legion monthly bus trips to Atlantic City.
Services were held at Whitting Funeral Home, Glen Head. Funeral Mass on Aug. 20 at St. Patrick’s RC Church and interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Brookville. Donations may be made in her memory to Glen Cove Emergency Medical Services, 8 Glen Cove Ave., Glen Cove, NY 11542.
