Paul Geddes Pennoyer Jr. was awarded the Navy Cross for extraordinary heroism for Air Group 28. Attached to the U.S.S. Monterey, he was operating against major units of the Japanese fleet during the first battle of the Philippines Sea on June 20, 1944. At the age of 89, he died on Jan. 7, 2010 in Locust Valley. The cause was congestive heart failure his family said. Among his other awards during WWII was the air medal for meritorious air strikes in the Solomon Islands in June and July 1943. In lieu of his second medal, he was presented the Gold Star by Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal in September of 1944. As a pilot of the Torpedo Bombers, Pennoyer was awarded a second Gold Star. In lieu of a third air medal, Pennoyer was presented a Gold Star again with his achievement as pilot of a Torpedo Bomber in the Philippines May through December 1944. In March 1943, he spent a month crossing the Pacific on a supply ship with John F. Kennedy, who became a lifelong friend.
Jacob (Jack) Ain, of Weston, MA, 94 years of age, died peacefully on Dec. 18, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. Jack Ain was born Dec. 15, 1915 in Sea Cliff to Julius and Clara Ain and lived most of his life in Sea Cliff and Old Brookville. He leaves his beloved four sons and one daughter: Mark Ain, Lexington, MA; Brent Ain, Potomac, MD; Ross Ain, Washington, DC; Aron Ain, Newton, MA; and Alice Ain Rich, Weston, MA. He is also survived by 12 loving grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, four daughters-in-law, one son-in-law, two sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many, many dear friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife Pearl Ponemon Ain and siblings Sarah Morenstein and Herbert Ain.
He was a graduate of Sea Cliff High School, Class of 1933, and New York University, Class of 1937 where he earned a degree in engineering.
Jack lived a full life with his adored wife of 65 years, Pearl, at his side. For over 45 years, he operated a local plumbing and heating supply business that he took over from his father. But his real interests were his family and the charitable organizations to which he gave tirelessly. While Jack was involved in leadership positions with the Lions Club, Congregation Tifereth Israel, the Glen Cove YMCA and many other charitable organizations, the Nassau County Chapter of the Association for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC) was particularly special to him. He served as a board member and leader of AHRC for many decades. In recognition of his dedication to providing assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, the AHRC opened the Pearl and Jack Ain Advantage Care Diagnostic and Treatment Center on its Brookville campus in 2005 through a lead gift provided by Pearl and Jack.
He was dedicated to making the world a better place and was committed to his community and energized by working to make the world a better place. He will be remembered as a man who cared deeply about his family and made a difference by helping those who needed assistance to lead productive and meaningful lives.

Stella B. Zadrozny
Stella B. Zadrozny, of Glen Cove, passed away comfortably and peacefully on Jan. 2, 2010, just shy of her 84th birthday. Loving wife of 63 years to her devoted and caring husband John. Dearest, loving and ever-giving mother of John William and Nancy Head. Cherished mother-in-law of Gary Head and Donna Zadrozny. Adored and deeply loved by her four grandchildren, Lia and John Paul Zadrozny of Arizona and Timothy and Thomas Head of Glen Cove. They will have you in their hearts always.
She was a wife, mother and grandmother who was truly dedicated to her family. There was no woman stronger to endure both love and pain the way she did. Her devotion to her faith and beliefs allowed her that in the stillness of her moment.

Martin William (Bill) Shaughnessy III, 65, of Honesdale, PA, died on Jan. 2, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, the former Ann M. Swiezbin. The couple married June 12, 1965 in St. Mary’s Church in Roslyn.
Born Jan. 22, 1944 in New York City, he was the son of M. William Shaughnessy of Beach Lake, PA, and Ellen Shaughnessy of Waterhill, FL, formerly of Glen Head. He was a United States Air Force veteran of Vietnam and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Along with his wife Ann, he owned and operated Shaughnessy Refrigeration, Inc. for 36 years.
Also surviving are his children, Brian Shaughnessy and wife Kim of Souderton, PA, Kelly Watkins and fiancée Kevin Bishop of Honesdale, William P. Shaughnessy and wife Sapna of Glenside, PA, and Maureen Kirchdoerfer and husband Justin of Fort Worth, TX; sisters Kathleen Bleier and husband Larry of Davie, FL, Ellen P. Snow and husband Todd of Hollywood, FL, and Monica Bender and husband Bill of Southport, NC; his brother Kevin Shaughnessy and wife Kate of Hillsborough, NJ; his grandchildren, John, Patrick and Amber Watkins and Lauren, Julia and Maya Shaughnessy, who were his pride, joy and the light of his life; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who truly loved his family and his Lord.
