Obituary: Douglass C. Herdt

Douglass C. Herdt, (58) of Hewitt, NJ, loving spouse of Robin Rose Bennett, died on Nov. 1, 2012. Doug was the youngest son of Gilbert and Clara (Roesch) Herdt, formerly from Glen Cove. He leaves his brothers Jonathan (Roberta), Robert (Lorna), Timothy (Carol) and sisters Penelope (Anthony Grover) and Bess (Charles Bell) and numerous nieces and nephews. Doug led an eclectic life. He was a Union props and load-in master, a classically trained actor, a cabinet-maker, and most recently a passionate practitioner and supporter of Permaculture gardening. Doug was committed to sustainability and care of the earth. A celebration of Doug’s life will be planned for May of 2013. Please contact the family for further details.

Obituary: Mary Ann Kaczorowski

Mary Ann Kaczorowski, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at her home in Bradenton, Florida. She was born Mary Ann Kotkiewicz on June 12, 1924 and grew up in Roslyn. During World War II she worked for Grumman Aircraft in Bethpage and later at Glen Cove Community Hospital. A long time Girl Scout leader of Glen Cove’s Troup 65, Mary Ann was an avid gardener, a voracious reader, an active tennis and bowling enthusiast and an outgoing and engaging conversationalist. She and her husband, Raymond, relocated from Glen Cove, New York to Bradenton, FL in 1981. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Raymond Kaczorowski, a veteran of WWII as well as her husband of five years, Donald Lundholm, also a veteran. Mary Ann is survived by two sons, Raymond Kaczorowski and wife Diane Schwetz of Houston, TX; Kenneth Kaczorowski and partner Barbara Griffin of Oak Island, New York; and two daughters, Donna Kaz and husband Richard Charkham of New York, NY; and Diane Shumway and husband Rick of Southampton, NY. Her sister, Agnes Trubish of Glen Cove, and two brothers, Jim Kotkiewicz of Levittown, PA and Val Kotkiewicz of Bethpage, NY, also survive her. She was the proud and loving grandmother of Scott and spouse Catherine, Kevin and spouse Tammy, Erek, Meredith, Kayla and Derek and a cherished great grandmother of Caroline, Logan, Jacob and Samantha.
