Louise Land Ryder, of Glen Cove, died of natural causes on Sept. 23, 2010. Ms. Ryder was born on Nov. 19, 1920 in Port Arthur, TX, and attended Catholic parochial schooling throughout her childhood. Her family subsequently relocated to Tulsa, OK, and New Orleans, LA, after which she moved to Garden City in 1940 where she worked as a secretary for Double Day Publishing.
Edward H. Hansen, longtime resident of Glen Cove for 52 years, died on Sept. 23, 2010. Husband of Virginia H. for 64 years. Father of Marjorie Elise. Grandfather of Meredith Sigrid. Brother of the late Edith H. Yewell and Sigrid N. Hansen. A WWII veteran, Edward was a pilot on a B17 Bomber in the 8th Army Air Force, 350 Bomb Squadron, 100th Bomb Group and flew missions out of England over Germany. He graduated from Brooklyn Poly Tech as a mechanical engineer. Edward was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a longtime elder and treasurer at the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove. Martha S. Rieser passed away on Sept. 19, 2010 at her home in Sea Cliff. She was born in Columbus, OH, and would have been 94 on Dec. 28. She graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in English literature before moving to Sea Cliff in 1940. Formerly married to Richard Smith, she married Norvin Rieser in 1965. Martha was a longtime member of the Sea Cliff GVA and further volunteered her time to the St. Luke’s Service League as well as the Glen Cove Hospital. She also acted as president of both the Sea Cliff Library Board and the Salvation Army Women’s Division of Nassau County and for many years she wrote the Sea Cliff Yacht Club newsletter, Seabreeze. She was a recipient of the Sea Cliff’s White Cap Award. Later in her life she completed her master’s degree in library science from L.I. University. She is survived by her husband Norvin; her children, Susan, Sally, Richard and Stephen; and grandchildren, Linda, Richard, Owen, Jesse and Amay. A memorial service will be held Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Sea Cliff.
