Josephine Grasso, 101 years of age, of Glen Cove, passed away on April 18, 2011. Wife of the late George. Mother of George (Rae) and Barbara Macedonio. Barbara E. Mehring, of Bayville, died on April 16, 2011 at age 67. Mother of Ronald Charpentier (Krystle) and Francesca Babel (Brian). Grandmother of Billy, Deanna, Gabriela, John, Alexandra, Mikayla, Olivia and Brandon. Barbara was an assistant librarian and Teacher’s aide in the Glen Cove School District for 25 years. Former president of Landing School PTA and high school PTA. She was also an accomplished artist. Visiting and service held at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas, Glen Cove. Interment Rockville Cemetery.
Helen Gregory, of Locust Valley, died on April 11, 2011. Wife of the late William. Mother of William, Patricia Daniello, Darlene Farley and Tara Gargiulo. Grandmother of Joey, Megan, Dan, Sandra, David, Andy and the late Jeffrey and great- grandmother of Joey, Billy, Anabella, Katie and Kyle. Sister of Franny, Ellie and Bobby. Jeffrey M. Cappel passed away in his sleep on April 9, 2011 at age 61. Mr. Cappel was born in the Bronx and raised in Glen Cove, but graduated from high school in Hawthorne, Westchester. He received his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Oswego where he met his future wife, Sallie Harrington, and resided in Oswego for over 20 years. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Adam and Ben. Mr. Cappel possessed a genius IQ and was an authority in many fields as well as a highly respected resource person in the upstate community. He was an energetic, well-known entrepreneur, having started and operated many successful businesses in the upstate area, including Oswego Nautical Marine Supply & Boat Dealership. He built three beautiful custom homes in Oswego, from the framework to the finishing work and was masterful with whatever project he undertook. For years, he served as able president of Adath Yisrael Synagogue. In his “hippie” days, Jeff was lead guitarist and vocalist for The Altruistic Headband, which was mostly a Doors tribute band.
LeRoy V. Moran Jr., of Glen Cove, died on April 8, 2011. Husband of Linda. Father of Kristopher (Gail), Heather Casey (Ryan), Rebecca Rubin (Joe), Zachary (Cara) and Thomas. Grandfather of Kristopher Jr., Shea, Andrew, Mason and Leah. Sister of Dorothy Stone (Warren). He was a retired member of Local 12, Heat and Frost insulators, former commissioner of Public Safety for Glen Cove, former Glen Cove Volunteer firefighter and a U.S. Army Veteran.
