Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi and Glen Cove Police Chief William Whitton invite the community to join them on Tuesday, Aug. 3 for Glen Cove’s National Night Out 2010. This block party-style event will be held at the Police Department and adjoining parking lot from 6 to 9 p.m. and will have food, refreshments, giveaways and entertainment all evening long. The Police Department will be holding an open house with tours of the facility, a TASER demo, lessons on firearms safety, and child ID kits. Several local organizations will be participating in this community-wide event, local vendors will remain open and city officials, law enforcement officers, civic leaders, business and religious organizations will be present to meet and interact with residents.
National Night Out is part of a 30-year program conducted across the country to take a stand against crime, conduct crime prevention education and open channels of communication between the police department and the community. This year’s honorees are Judge Richard McCord and Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice.
Assemblyman Charles Lavine and Minority Leader of the Nassau County Legislature Diane Yatauro invite community members participating in this event to bring canned food or non-perishable food donations for our local food pantries. This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and make a positive contribution by reaching out to those in need.
