GCPD, County SWAT Team Find Automatic Assault Weapon

High-risk Cedar Swamp Entry Ends With Felony Charges

At about 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13 Glen Cove Police Detectives Christopher Grella, Robert Schlee, and Officer Chris Albin arrested 31-year-old Donell Leshawn Williams of Hempstead for possessing a loaded Tech 9 automatic assault weapon.

CPU (Crime Prevention Unit) Detectives Grella and Schlee had been investigating Williams and recently acquired a court-ordered search warrant for a premise at 59 Cedar Swamp Rd. in Glen Cove, where Police said Williams sometimes stays. The detectives executed the warrant with assistance from Nassau County PD Bureau of Special Operations (SWAT team), who they said bring to the table a lot of experience and equipment when performing high-risk entries.

According to the GCPD, the weapon and fully loaded magazine were recovered from the bedroom at the above listed location. Williams was taken into custody without incident. He was arraigned on July 14 on two felony charges of weapons possession.
