New Math Tutors In Glen Cove

Mathnasium is now open on School Street in Glen Cove for students of all ages to improve upon their math skills.

Brijesh Parekh, owner of the Glen Cove franchise, first became interested in working for Mathnasium after learning about their curriculum at another franchise on Long Island.

“When I came across Mathnasium, it interested me the way they taught the kids,” Parekh said. “Math was always up my ally.”

Mathnasium uses a specialized approach called the “Mathnasium Method,” which combines mental, visual, tactile, and written techniques to help children understand math.

Parkeh said that the most unique part about the curriculum is that each one is tailored towards the students’ needs.

“Every curriculum is based on the student,” Parkeh said. “We put focus on the strengths and weaknesses of the student and also include the gaps they’re missing from school.”

Rather than sending the students home with additional homework, Mathnasium tutors focus on teaching the children what they need to know while they are at the center.

The tutors at Mathnasium make learning math fun for the students. For each page of math the student gets correct, they get a punch on a “punch card” which goes towards prizes.

“We believe this gets students more focused and on the right track of thinking,” Parkeh said. “The more the student comes in and challenges themselves, the more they get better.”

Parkeh said that the most rewarding part of his job is seeing adults come into the center and want to learn math again.

“It’s absolutely rewarding seeing adults come back and want to learn math again,” Parkeh said.

Parkeh said that he also enjoys seeing students gain an interest in math.

“I’ve had parents come up to me and say, ‘I’ve never heard my child say math and love in the same statement’,” Parkeh said. “They never want to go home even after an hour or hour and a half of learning.”

For the summer season, Mathnasium will offer SAT preparation, help for students who go to summer school and help for students who would like to improve upon their math skills for the upcoming year.
