Delighting The Taste Buds

Nearly 250 people attended the Chamber of Commerce’s 17th Annual Culinary Delights on Monday, April 28 at the historic Glen Cove Mansion, where they had an opportunity to sample food and beverages from dozens of different area businesses. 

 

“Attendees raved about the gourmet selections and were more than satisfied with the high quality of the signature samplings,” says Phyllis Gorham, the executive director of the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce. “Praise was aplenty from so many who all vowed to return next year with more family and friends.”

 

Participants included restaurants, retail food purveyors, bakeries, assisted living facilities, the Glen Cove Hospital and several beer and wine providers. There were more than 40 owners, chefs and representatives serving a huge variety of foods and drinks. The event is a big attraction for both vendors and attendees since it allows business owners the chance to promote their offerings while giving potential customers a chance to perhaps discover something new. Kitchen and La Bussola providing samples of their various cuisine to the Bayville-based Suzie Cakez offering mini-cupcakes, the event goes beyond Glen Cove. 

 

“The Chamber takes great pride in planning this event for both the food industry players and the communities, far and wide, presenting introductions and future patronage,” says Gorham. “Our mission is to ‘enhance the health and profitability of our member businesses’ and we believe this evening was the perfect example of achieving our goal.”

 

Attendees over the age of 21 could partake in the sampling of wine and beer, from those close to home as well as Southold-based Cellier Wines and their innovative dispensing system of French wines to Hicksville-based Jac’s and their delicious gluten-free baked goods.

 

“The Chamber is very grateful to all participants, including the vendors selling goods and services relating to the food industry,” says Gorham. “A very big thank you to the many, many generous donors who contributed to our biggest number of raffle baskets ever! 

Raffles donors formed an extensive list of businesses bringing in almost 70 baskets!  This was beyond our expectations and a big thank you to each and every contributor. Winners went home extremely happy with their good fortune.”

 

She says the committee worked “hard and diligently to oversee all details for the perfect evening.” This year’s added ambiance included the live music of harpist Janet King and guitarist Brandon Lubrano.  She notes that the mansion “is simply a natural host” for the event, yet it is from the support of participants, donors and attendees that the Culinary Delights can continue each year so successfully.  

 

Sponsors included Astoria Federal Savings Bank, Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Continental Tax Planners and Glen Cove Hospital; a portion of the proceeds were donated to the North Shore Sheltering Program.
