CTI Honors Cantor Gustavo Gitlin

At a sold-out elegant dinner dance last week, Cantor Gustavo Gitlin was honored by Congregation Tifereth Israel (CTI) for his 10 years of service. Cantor Gitlin has also established a wide-spread reputation for service to Glen Cove and the surrounding areas.

In the decade since his arrival from Argentina he has served the Glen Cove community in many roles including president of the North Shore Sheltering Program, the boards of the Glen Cove Youth Bureau and La Fuerza Unida, and the advisory board of the Morgan Park Summer Music Festival. Further, Cantor Gitlin is a familiar presence at Glen Cove Hospital and other local medical institutions where he regularly provides spiritual comfort to patients. The Cantor also brings Shabbat programs to the homebound and to many of the community’s programs for seniors, including senior living facilities and the Glen Cove Senior Center.

CTI’s evening of dancing and dining also honored Tifereth Israel’s past presidents: Charles Brody, Phil Essex, William Friedlieb, Michael Hoffman, Richard Lazarow, Lillian Meckler, Adina Orshan, Joseph Shapiro, Mayer Udell, Gerald Wolkowitz and David Zatlin.

CTI, the oldest continuing Jewish congregation on Long Island, has been providing Jewish programming and education to the Long Island community since 1897. The synagogue is located at 40 Hill Street in Glen Cove, at the intersection of Hill Street and Landing Road. Call 516-676-5080 for further information.
