Over the Memorial Day weekend, there were several opportunities to celebrate and honor war veterans. Events began on Sunday, May 26, with the decoration of the war monument on Ford Street and Forest Ave, the St. Rocco monument, and the monument at Elm Avenue and Frost Pond Road, followed by a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church in Glen Cove.
On Monday, Memorial Day commemorations began at Monument Park, where Bernard Farnan was honored, followed by the parade.
The celebrations were organized by the City of Glen Cove Memorial Day Parade Committee, whose members represent the VFW James Donahue Post 347, American Legion Post 76, American Legion Young-Simmons Post 1765 and the Marine Corps League Globe and Anchor Detachment.
