Pizzeria Approved For Landing

Application for Partial Development of  Mansion Property Considered

Residents of the Landing will soon have more restaurant choices with the opening of a pizzeria next door to an Italian restaurant in the commercial block that has had some vacancies for the past few years.

The City of Glen Cove Planning Board held a public hearing Tuesday and granted conditional approval for a special use permit for the take-out pizzeria, located at 5860 Landing Road, adjacent to the restaurant that is currently being renovated on the corner.

The applicants had previously come before the board to apply for the permit but had to go to the zoning board to figure out the parking variance; they said a parking study has been completed and they are ready for final approval.

The expected hours of operation for the pizzeria will be from 11 a.m. to 8 or 8:30 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and the restaurant would be open from 4 to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

Several board members had questions about the bar area inside the restaurant; the applicant said they expect to have it available for customers to have an after-dinner drink but do not intend on attracting a bar crowd or being open late strictly to serve alcohol.

“We’re not looking to be a bar – I want to go home at a decent hour. there’s a bar at the other corner – let them get the late night business,” the applicant said.

The Planning Board also heard a preliminary review to consider applications for the development of a subdivision on the property of the Glen Cove Mansion; the development would be contained to one specific area and would consist of luxury homes on a portion of the property not considered to have any historical significance, while leaving the majority of the grounds and buildings untouched. More details on this application will be published in next week’s paper.
