Teen in Critical Condition After Hit and Run

Nassau Police seek information on the driver

Readers are familiar with the hectic intersection of Glen Cove Road and Northern Boulevard, where caution is required in the car and walking around seems flat out dangerous. This was proven to be the case recently when one unfortunate teen was tragically struck by a negligent driver who then fled the scene, according to Nassau County police.

Detective Lapine of the Nassau County Homicide Squad said that anyone with information on the driver should contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS, where all callers remain anonymous.

Lapine said that the crime occurred on Monday, Dec. 5 at 5:13 p.m. He said that the victim, an 18-year-old girl, was crossing in the crosswalk on Glen Cove Road from east to west when she was struck by “a small to mid-sized, black colored 4-door car with dark tinted windows.” The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Northern Boulevard making a left turn onto northbound Glen Cove Road when the accident occurred, Lapine continued.

Once the girl was struck by the car, police say, the driver continued north on Glen Cove Road without stopping.

The victim was then transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The investigation is open and ongoing.
