Mayor Ralph V. Suozzi is kicking off his 2011 campaign for re-election with a dinner party at the Glen Cove Mansion on Monday, June 20 at 6 p.m. Running with Mayor Suozzi are his Glen Cove City Council team, including incumbent city council members: YMCA of Long Island CEO Mike Famiglietti, local insurance business owner Nick DiLeo, decorated veteran and former EMS chief Tony Jimenez, trial attorney Tim Tenke, and financial strategist Sean Dwyer. Council member Delia DeRiggi-Whitton is not seeking re-election. Longtime Glen Cove resident Martin Carmody, a design engineer, has been selected to join Suozzi’s team.
Suozzi said that he and his team have identified and acquired millions of dollars in government grants to clean up the local environment and help the city finance capital projects. Working with a multitude of federal, state, county, and city agencies, the Suozzi team says they have put together an impressive list of accomplishments. The deficit, long-term debt and expenses have all been reduced, they said, and innovative non-taxpayer sources of revenue have been developed. They tout that they’ve “implemented an award-winning Master Plan, new zoning, and charter reforms, improved public safety, and rehabilitated everything from city streets and sidewalks to our aging city parks.”
Suozzi stated, “From the first moment I took office in 2006 I hit the ground running and have never stopped. The city council has worked with me to meet the many challenges our community faces. I am proud of the recognition that our work has received from Washington, to Albany and throughout Long Island. I look forward to the opportunity to continue serving the community I love.”
