Robert Germino (former captain in the United States Marine Corps, Iraq veteran, board member of the not-for-profit Semper4Soldiers, and 2010 candidate for State Assembly District 13) is the Republican candidate for Nassau County Legislature. The Nassau County Republican Committee nominated him for the current County Legislative District 18 that includes Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Bayville, Locust Valley, Brookville, Glen Head, Greenvale, and Jericho.
Germino said his platform is economic growth, efficient government, and responsible spending. He said he will be responsive to the needs of the local business owners who create jobs in the community. Germino supports initiatives that “right-size” government such as the privatization of Long Island Bus.
Germino said he also pledges to be a steward of taxpayers’ dollars. He supports budgets that do not exceed the current rate of inflation. Germino believes that all county employees should contribute to the cost of health care and that local firefighters, police officers, and EMS have necessary, lifesaving equipment.
When asked to respond to his opponent’s recent public statements (“Delia DeRiggi-Whitton and Robert Germino Will Vie for 18th Legislative District,” Glen Cove Record Pilot, 26 May 2011), he stated the following: “My opponent and I agree that we cannot ‘borrow money for policies that Nassau can’t afford’; however, her record as a Glen Cove City Councilwoman belies that statement. She sat silently as Glen Cove’s finances plummeted to near junk-bond status. Moody’s Investors Service recently downgraded Glen Cove’s credit rating to Baa3 with a ‘negative outlook’ for our city’s financial future. The Nassau County Legislature cannot afford her record."
